SHS Library Mission Statement
To provide our users with skillfully selected, organized, and managed resources in all formats; and to foster the appreciation of fine literature and the joy of reading.
The SHS Library Media Center (LMC) collection complements the high school curriculum. The collection supports students’ research, appreciation of literature, class assignments, and personal development. Materials selected include print and non-print resources. The LMC also offers a number of online databases, provided through membership in the Massachusetts Library System (MLS).
All students are encouraged to utilize the resources of the Library Media Center (LMC)during assigned study periods, in between classes, and after school. The LMC is to be used for research or information retrieval necessary to complete class assignments. Also, its various resources are best employed to fulfill the needs of a particular project, explore a topic of interest, select reading materials, or find a quiet place to read or study. We strive to maintain a quiet atmosphere, conducive to learning and research.
Computer use is allowed for student research, word processing, document preparation, and SAILS searching in connection with school-related projects. Only school-licensed programs are provided. Access to the internet is bound by the Seekonk High School Acceptable Use Policy.
The library remains open after school several days a week for student study, research, and computer use.
Both faculty and students may use video cassette recorders, dvd players, digital cameras (still and video), digital editing equipment, CD burners, scanners, and headphones.
The library provides instruction for grades 9 to 12.This instruction relates to research strategies, information literacy, and literacy appreciation. During grade 9, students receive an orientation to the library.
